Spring/Summer 2016 Trends

The arrival of the warmer seasons is just a few weeks away which means we will finally be able to put away all of our chunky knits and thicker garments. Kicking off the feeling of the season is the concept of transporting oneself to a more relaxing place and disconnecting from all the technology that binds us. Inspiration was taken from things such as natural resources, art and travel. The colour combonation for this season is a unisex palette that emits tranquility with a touch of excitement.

Here is the colour palette for Spring/Summer 2016 according to Pantone: pantone-colours-of-spring-summer-2016-serenity-rose-quartz

Marled knits, netting and lightweight denim are just some of the fabrics that were seen on the runways.  Smoothly transitioning from the cold winter to the spring is made easy with marled knits. Lightweight denim was also used to bring the 70s vibes into the Spring/Summer season. My favourite trend for fabric is definitely the netting trend. You can locate it anywhere on a garment and it will elevate any look.

Jason Wu – Spring/Summer 2016

The trend for prints this season are blown out plaid, stripes and tie dye. Some of the colours this season may be intimidating but these prints make it much easier to take on. With just a few pops of colour throughout  the print makes it much easier to work with.

Altuzurra – Spring 2016

The silhouettes that will be present are voluminous sleeves and shoulder bearing garments. Bringing sexy back are cheeky garments showcasing the shoulders. This is another one of my favourite trends this season because it is such a versatile one. You can go casual by choosing an asymmetric neckline or you can go ultra sexy with an off the shoulder neckline.

Proenza Schouler – Spring/Summer 2016

Ruffles and fringe were present on the runways in the form of styling details. The Victorian and 70s trends are here to stay for another season. Designers adorned garments in a different way than they did for Fall/Winter 2015.

Shoes & Bags

The most popular shoes for Spring/Summer 2016 are flat mules. I love mules in general just because they can go with a casual outfit or a more dressed up outfit.

For bags, the half moon bag was most popular. This bag is great since it is available in different sizes and shapes. Some bags are more accentuated like the Victoria Beckham half moon bag and others are less like the A.P.C half moon bag seen below.
